Topic: About website width:::::::

I am using my smart phone more and more, my tablet more and more, and
starting to resent website designs that do not degrade well. Which is why I
am now rethinking my strategy and including the old 800x600 min site
resolution for design because that design format works so well with mobile
devices such as smart phones and tablets.
Always something...

A List Apart has a great little ebook about responsive design which I'm diving into right now. I highly recommend it.

I've had nothing but good fortune with Verio as a web hoster. Until
now.
It seems like they have had a major downfall, out-sourcing tech
support and using shoddy (or untested) servers.
Have you had similar experience?
Should I switch? To where?

I have been using Hostgator for 4 years now. I currently have a copper
reseller plan and manage 2 basic reseller accounts and 1 dedicated
server for a client.
On my personal account I have had absolutely NO downtime
On one basic reseller package we have experienced no problems
whatsoever.
On the second reseller plan I manage for a client, we have had a few
problems. The server failed which resulted in about 8 hours of
downtime
On the dedicated server, any problems we have experienced were our own
fault, however Hostgator customer service has never charged us a dime
for helping us sort them out.
Hostgator customer support is awesome. If you contact them by phone
they hardly ever put you on hold.
Their chat customer service is good to excellent. The only issues I
have ever had were related to the fact that I am not the registered
owner of the dedicated account so sometimes they have to email the
owner of the account for verification. This is frustrating for me at
times, but from the owner of the account's perspective it is a great
feature.
If you want to bypass customer service and just get things fixed over
email you can do that by emailing support@hostgator.com. They jump on
support tickets fast and are efficient. If you know the problem or
what you need and do not need to troubleshoot this is a great way to
go.
Their customer service department is located in Houston, close to "The
Planet" a huge server farm in Texas where they keep their own servers
and resell The Planet's servers.
I would give them a 9 out of 10 in price, reliabilty, and customer
service. The only reason I can't giver them a 10 is due to the failure
of the one reseller server.

I would have recommended Hosting Zoom until last month when they suspended
one of my accounts for excessive use of resources. This after years of
hosting the exact same site (TopSitesCatalog). Last month they told me to
"optimize the php" for my button program, but I've had enough of their crap,
I was paying a premium just to keep that one site active.
That said, I know that HostGator won't have that site, nor will Domain
Hostmaster. But at least Domain Hostmaster gives Me an American voice I can
understand when I need support. Of course, as you know, that IS me. But
now I am moving all my HostingZoom sites over where I can afford the
hosting.
My other hosting options won't help you, as they use outsourced tech support
as well. But they are targeting bargain hunters anyway, and do not offer
the rock solid reliability you are looking for.
