    Hi Dmitry!

That one has a quick fix: use "WAP_SINGLE" or "WAP_DOUBLE" as size.

The returned error should be "Invalid ad unit size", so we'll fix that on
    our end.

    Thank you!

[Inside AdSense] Free video ad serving in DFP Small Business, available to all publishers

Cross posted from the DoubleClick Publisher Blog

Publishers everywhere are discovering the revenue and audience growth potential of video content. As a publisher grows a video viewership on their site, selling their own ads becomes an increasingly important revenue stream. Over the past year we've added mobile capabilities and tested out video ad serving features to better help publishers sell advertising across all screens and formats. So today we're excited to announce the availability of video ad serving features plus an unlimited video ad serving trial offer to all DFP Small Business publishers.

So what's new?

Comprehensive video ad creative management
  • Show pre-roll, post-roll, and mid-roll in-stream ads, as well as overlays and companion creative sets
  • Upload and transcode video ad assets to a variety of formats
Simple workflow with trusted partners
  • To use the video ad management features, publishers need to integrate with video technology platforms to ensure optimal video ad playback and easy implementation
  • Manage your video ads alongside your desktop and mobile display ads in DFP Small Business
Make the most from every stream
Video ad serving is free up to 400K ad impressions a month. Until April 30th, we're offering a free unlimited trial, so you can serve as many video ads as you want. After this trial offer has ended, impressions over 400K a month will be charged a nominal ad serving fee on a CPM basis.

We'd love to hear your opinions and feedback on these new features on our AdSense Google+ page, where you'll also be able to discuss your thoughts and share best practices with other publishers.

If you'd like to start with DFP Small Business, sign up here. The new video functionality is automatically turned on for all current DFP Small Business publishers, so if you're ready to start selling video ads, log in now!

Digest for adsense-api@googlegroups.com - 1 Message in 1 Topic

Group: http://groups.google.com/group/adsense-api/topics

    Tony J <tonyjohn@gmail.com> Jan 25 07:15PM -0800

Google recently implemented "host limited adsense accounts" - if an AdSense
account is created through a Host Partner site, such accounts can be used
only on AdSense Host partner sites.

We are using AdSense APIs and share revenue on our Host Partner site, and
    have no problem with this.

Now, we are sharing the same template and implementation on an additional
site. During the V2 period, there was way in APIs to add an additional
developer url to a partner account, so we used the primary account in the
second site as well to share revenue.

In V3, Google introduced "developer url", but we could not get the second
site added to the developer site list because many publishers had already
associated to the second site using the first site url.

Now, with the Host Limited AdSense system, this approach no longer works
because Google does not consider our second site as a "Host Partner Site".
If a Host Limited publisher associates his AdSense account with our second
site, it will show no ads because the second site is not a host partner
    site on official records.

Can you give some suggestions on how to resolve this problem?

#2 Upgrade for old clients seems I am not getting it. If old code has
    following values:

    google_ad_host="pub-8765049832089938";*

What should be the values for "accountId" and "adClientId" to be entered
    here https://developers.google.com/adsense/host/v4.1/accounts/adunits/list

"Sérgio Gomes (AdSense API Team)" <adsenseapiadvisor+sergio@google.com> Jan 25 10:05AM -0800

    Hi Ashesh,

Is this a real, existing account that you're trying to use with your
sandbox Host account? That won't work, since the accounts are not
associated to start with (your publisher is associated to your production
account, not your sandbox one), and if you try to associate them it will
fail -- sandbox host accounts can only be associated with sandbox publisher
    accounts, for safety reasons.

In order to test listing ad units and similar functionality, you'll need to
create your own sandbox publisher accounts by following the signup flow<https://developers.google.com/adsense/host/signup>.
    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,
    Sérgio

    Hi Ashesh,

    Apologies for the late reply.

    1. If you're ready to move to production, feel free to send us an email
with the details of the callback URL that you want to use in production
(which may be the same as the one for your sandbox account, depending on
your needs), and we'll get you started!
    2. The method you list is the correct way of getting the publisher IDs
based on old client IDs (which in most cases should just be a case of
removing the "ca-" prefix anyway). This may be an account which has been
closed or disapproved for some reason?

[Inside AdSense] Your optimization checklist, Part 2

Last week we covered some oldie-but-goodie optimization tips. Today, we'll focus on some advanced tips to help you bring your AdSense strategy to the next level. We encourage you to review the full list and check off items as you complete them.
  1. Ensure your site has a positive user experience: User experience (UX) can make or break your site's success. With many other sites offering similar services, it's important to differentiate your site in the eyes of your users by providing a better experience. Because a user's attention is limited, you'll only have a few seconds to provide a good experience and quickly guide the user to what they're looking for. Read these three blog posts to learn our top five UX tips.
  2. Make your first ad unit count: AdSense loads the highest paying ad on a page first, so to improve your revenue make sure that your best performing ad unit is the first in your HTML code. Make the changes by following these steps.
  3. Fix crawler errors: Ensure that our AdSense crawler can accurately crawl your site so that your ads are as relevant and useful as possible. Visit the Account settings section of your account to see if you have crawler errors and read this blog post for details on the steps to take.
  4. Go mobile: It's clear that mobile is growing rapidly. Ensure you have a mobile strategy for your site, and use our tips and tools to help you along the way.
  5. Create a Google+ page to connect with your users: Google+ offers a number of tools to help you reach audiences in new ways. On your +page, you can share your articles, photos, YouTube videos, and even host live broadcasts. Your +page will also include a +1 button that users can click to recommend you. Think about your Google+ page as a way to complement your site, allowing you to grow and measure user engagement before directing users back to your pages for more of your great content. Get started today by reading our Social Fridays blog post series.
  6. Use DoubleClick For Publishers (DFP) Small Business: As your online advertising business continues to grow, you may have started working with other ad networks or doing deals directly with advertisers. DFP Small Business is a free, Google-hosted solution to help streamline how ads are served on your site when you're working with AdSense alongside other ad partners. With DFP Small Business, you have a vast array of features that give you more control over when, where, and how your ads serve.
That concludes our two-part optimization checklist series. Please visit our AdSense +page to let us know your experience with these optimization tips.

I use "Google APIs Client Library for PHP<http://code.google.com/p/google-api-php-client/>
    "
But when I use Adsense and Analytics API I get errors.
    when I made this:

    > '/google-api-php-client/src/contrib/Google_AdsenseService.php';
    > include_once
    > '/google-api-php-client/src/contrib/Google_AnalyticsService.php';

    I get this error:

    > Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Google_Account in
    > /var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/google-api-php-client
    > /src/contrib/Google_AnalyticsService.php on line 379

Because both of the php files has a class named "Google_Account".
That class is not inside a namespace so PHP says it couldn't redeclare it.

I suppose it is a bug and reporting it.

(I would be happy if you can tell me, if there exists any other way to
    report this bug)

    Hi,

With the support I was able to creatr the process from sign-up till getting
the AdSense code. I have few questions now:

    1. How to move from sandbox to live? We already have an approved account
    for previous version
    2. How to update the code for existing publishers? I tried their client Id
but the new API says "not found".

    Ashesh <ppashesh@gmail.com> Jan 15 08:49AM -0800

    Hi Sérgio,

Thanks for the contin ued support. Finally I was able to bring together the
complete process from sigup to adcode generation using the sanbox account
provided. We already have an approved account running old version. Few
    questions:

    1. How to move from sandbox to live account?
    2. How to upgrade the existing users to new code? I tried
    https://developers.google.com/adsense/host/v4.1/accounts/get using an
existing (old) client id but I got account not found.

[Inside AdSense] Your optimization checklist, Part 1

With a fresh start to the year, now is a great time to review your AdSense strategy to ensure you're making the most out of your ads. With that in mind, we're kicking off a two-part optimization checklist series to help you increase your earning potential. In this first post, we'll review some oldie-but-goodie tips; take a look, check off the items that you've already covered, and see if there's anything you may have missed.
  1. Increase ad coverage: Placing additional ad units on your site can have a big impact on your earnings. You can put up to three standard AdSense for content ad units (note only one 300x600), three link units and two AdSense for search boxes on each page of your site. Sometimes publishers find it difficult to decide whether an additional ad unit makes sense for their site. Watch this short video to help you make sure you're following best practices, as outlined on Google's Webmaster Guidelines, when placing new ad units on your site. As always, it's important to consider the amount of ads in relation to the quality content on your site.
  2. Use recommended ad sizes: As a rule of thumb, wider ad sizes tend to outperform their taller counterparts, due to their reader-friendly format. If positioned well, wide ad sizes can increase your earnings significantly. The sizes we've found to be the most effective are the 728X90 Leaderboard, the 336x280 Large Rectangle, the 300x250 Medium Rectangle, and the 160x600 Wide Skyscraper. Keep in mind that while these ad sizes typically perform well, you should use the size that best complements your pages.
  3. Show both text and image ads: Image ads compete in the same auction for your ad space that text ads do. So, choosing to display both text and image ads increases the competition for ads to appear on your site, and may help you earn more. Check this case study to see how displaying both text and image ads helped one publisher. You can also find instructions how to enable image ads in our Help Center.
  4. Experiment with ad color combinations: Choosing the right ad styles can mean the difference between ads your users will notice -- and click -- and ads they'll skip right over. There are three techniques you can use to design ad styles that will be successful for your site: blend, compliment and contrast.  Experiment with ad color combinations to find the best fit for your site. See this Help Center article for additional information.
  5. Ensure optimal ad placement: The placement of your ads plays a big role in revenue earning potential and user experience. While we often recommend placing an ad above the fold, it's also important that users can easily find the content they are looking for. Check out this resource for more tips on ad placement, and see our heat map for even more information.
  6. Add a search box (or two): As mentioned in #1, you can put up two AdSense for search boxes (along with three standard AdSense for content ad units and three link units) on each page of your site.  AdSense for search is a free product that lets you place a Custom Search Engine on your site to provide users with web search. You'll also earn revenue from relevant ads on the search results page.
We hope you find these tips useful. If you have additional tips to share, or would like to let us know about your experience with using an optimization tip, leave a comment on our AdSense +page. Stay tuned for our second part of the series, where we'll cover some advanced optimization tips.

    Sir,
With my due respect i want to tell you that currently i am working on a new
website where people can share articles. I want my users to earn money by
sharing revenue on articles which they write.

But as this will be a new site, it will not have that much amount of
traffic that is required. I want to promote my site as people can earn
money easily by writing articles to get easy and fast traffic.

Will you please help me, I shall be very thankful to you. Please allow me
to join Adsense Host API to get better traffic by promoting my site in this
    manner.

    Thanks

    Hi Cristian,

This is as full as the example can get, as you need to fill these in with

    Hello,

I am in a process of migrating the old soap API to the new v4 API. I

Could you please take a look when you have a chance.

    Hi Cristian,

Looks like your problem is related to authentication, not the report
    generation method.
Did you fill in the client ID, client secret, etc. in the AdSenseAuth.php
    file?

I'm afraid you can only apply for the AdSense Host API if you meet the 100k

    Hello,

We are in the process of launching a revenue sharing website where the
author's can earn 100% revenue share from their articles. But since the
site will be new and it cannot satisfy the minimum traffic requirement, Can
i still show the author's adsense ads if they already have adsense accounts
with them. There will be multiple authors. Or should we have to wait till
our website reaches the minimum traffic requirement?

Your help regarding this will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks.

I am trying to pull a couple simple AdSense reports to include in a larger
report and am not sure how to deal with the OAuth. I was hoping that the
service account method I used for the analytics data would work, but I keep
getting a 403. It seems that an email confirm is needed to add a user to
Adsense, or can I just add my API user and have the service account work?
If not, what would be the best way to use the API\OAuth in a way that is
completely unattended, it's all running on a backend server, so there's no
way to ask a user to enter credentials or hit something on a screen.
    Thanks for any help.

    Ryan,

You will need to use the refresh_token method to do this since AdSense
is tied to a user/email service accounts wont work. I have posted some php
code in the past. Basically you will need to setup an auth page and
authenticate once and get the access_token and refresh_token. Store the
refresh_token and then use it to request access_tokens with your scripted
    reports

    Hi Ronen,

Let me answer your questions by number:

    1. The 400 errors are likely because these are sandbox accounts, yes. I'm
not entirely sure what mechanism is used to prevent them from serving, but
I know they will not serve ads (since they're only for testing). The fact
that you say the API call is working correctly seems to validate this.

    2. It's always best to create the ad unit with your preferred style (the
one you'll be using most of the time). You could then later override it
when generating the ad code, in case there's a property you need to change,
but we don't currently make this functionality available through the API,
so you'd have to parse and modify the generated ad code (which is a bit
icky). As for size, that cannot be overridden since it has the potential to
affect page rendering (which is why we won't let you change it once you
create the ad unit), so you need a separate ad unit in that case.

    3. Ah, that's incorrect, it should be "SLIGHTLY_ROUNDED", not "ROUNDED".
I'll try to get that page fixed.

    Cheers,
    Sérgio

    Hi Sérgio,

    Thanks for your quick answer.

One more question please. Once I go to production (or now if I only want to
make sure displaying ads really do work), how can I have a host account
that can actually display ads? I understand that a sandbox account is for
testing, but how can I get a hold of an account that can be used for
    production?

    Thanks again,

    Hi Ronen,

Once you go live, your existing (production) AdSense account will be
enabled for Host functionality. Publisher accounts created with that one
will be production AdSense accounts, which are able to serve ads. I'm
afraid there's no way for you to test this now, unless you're already an
    existing host, using v3. :-/

Oh, as a sidenote, you should keep the sandbox account even after you go
live, so that you have a test account if you ever want to develop new
    features!

    Cheers,
    Sérgio

Hmm, sounds like the PHP client isn't handling arrays correctly. Perhaps
file a bug on the client's issue tracker<http://code.google.com/p/google-api-php-client/issues/list>?
The author should be able to help you figure out the issue.

    Cheers,
