XP may have shipped with IE6, but if they have any internet access they most
likely have upgraded to a much later version via Windows Update. If not,
they should have and they are extremely stubborn and excessively lazy. It
is doing them a service to upgrade, I don't think that IE7 requires more
resources or a faster computer (which is usually the stumbling block when
people go to upgrade).
To top that off, XP is now a free download at Microsoft (not that I have
looked for it, but that's what a tech support friend tells me). So,
Microsoft has actually officially stopped supporting it other than minor
security patches as necessary.
Use of IE6 is very low and the IE6 user impact insignificant.

" IE6 user impact insignificant. " it is significant if your dealing with
business who cant upgrade due to a legacy software built for IE6

Personally I would like it if everyone stops designing for IE6, forcing
those behind to upgradeŠ We all upgrade at some point, but IE6 needs to be
extinct just like the dinosaurs they areŠ
Yours Sincerely
