i'm delving into the SEO aspects of my web knowledge, and the more i
read, the more confused i get.

from what i've semi-absorbed so far:

~ content is king. be sure to use the keywords in copy, just not too
    much.
~ links (internal & external) are important.
~ use meta tags & keywords in the head.
~ have the SEO done before you begin work on the site..

the part that confuses me is when i read about getting banned form
search engines by trying to fool them. is using the alt tag for
    keywords 'cheating'?

thanks again for the clarifications and other SEO tips you might have.
    berbes

    Kevin,

Seems like I hit a nerve!

Thank you for illustrating the compelling reasons why a CMS is too
difficult for the average person to maintain. I use Joomla and I believe it
is a good tool in certain instances, however, as you so eloquently put it
with your response it is very complicated and only a professional like
    yourself should use it.

I am very aware of Joomla and what it takes to have a secure site that runs
efficiently. I have been developing with Joomla almost exclusively for the
last 4.5 years. I am fortunate that most of my sites are for the same
customer that has a working knowledge of web design and trusts me to make
the right decisions on his behalf. The balance of my customers that I have
developed Joomla websites for are a source of frustration and in general a
    headache -FACT

Which brings me to the the general direction of Joomla. - Joomla is having
serious growing pains. Egos are tearing it apart from the inside. People
with good ideas are banned from the development and have gone off to start
their own forks or distros of Joomla. Joomla itself came from Mambo
    imploding. 1.0, 1.5 (24 versions) 1.6 for a few months) 1.7 until
January, 1.8 for 6 months after that, 2.5??? what happened to 2.0??

I used to be a Joomla cheerleader - not a FANBOY, but a cheerleader. While
I was staying focused on Joomla, a lot of technologies passed me on by
because I liked the whole plug and play concept of Joomla. The blinders are
off again and I am getting caught up and focusing on Mobile development due
to the shoret attention span of the public. I am enjoying the simplicity of
hand coding again. It just works.

Bottom line - If you want to use a CMS, Joomla is the best (in my opinion
whatever that is worth) I am sure we will agree on that. It is just not for
everyone or every circumstance. There will always be a need for a CMS as
there will always be a need for people like you to keep them up to date and
    functioning well.

    Chris
