    Hi folks,
i'm just beginner for development..... While i'm using the background
image property i'm confused with the path specification.... forward
slash or back slash... because in windows i see back(\) for the path
location.... but address bar(for all website) i see that forward
slash is used for represent the location......

Another IMPORTANT one is that is there any substitute for the marquee
property..... i see in many sites, that doesn't have marquee tag but
it has some ""top"" tag which has a running value.... how its
    possible....

    .... thanks,,,,

it is always forward slash no matter what os you are developing on.

    /images/example.jpg (starts at root directory)

    ../images/example.jpg (goes back a directory)

do you mean background-position: top, center; ? that is how you control the
position. you can also use pixels and percentages.

I am pretty sure the Marquee tag is depreciated. <blink>it is about as cool
    as this</blink>

    google for a javascript alternative

HTML (effectively HTTP) was designed to be platform independent. Therefore,
no matter what you are running on, the path has to be forward slash, as it
represents the URL to the remote resource and not a resource on the system
    where it is displayed.

And as far as the marquee thing is concerned, it is usually done with
JavaScript. There are multiple online tutorials and even freewares
available to take ideas from. http://www.dynamicdrive.com/ would be a good
    place to start.
