Actually one of my instructor's is a partner in a web development
company. And he is a genius to say the least. I thought I was the only
one that felt like I knew less. I really do feel like I'm so far
behind in the industry which is why I value this group, joined twitter
just to follow people in the industry all for the sake of trying to
    keep up.

You can answer this question in a different thread but How long have
you been in the industry? You mentioned its 4am where you are. Where
    are you? Its 2:20p here.

I built my first website in 1996 if I remember right. Back then it was
mostly a hobby. About 5 years ago, I got serious. I was laid off from my
job and decided I needed to work because I had a baby on the way so I
taught myself to get current and concentrated on Joomla. I still work with
Joomla to some extent, but been working on html 5 and css3 plus mobile apps
at the moment as that is which way the wind is blowing.

I live in The Philippines with my wife and 3 kids. One of the best parts of
telecommuting is I can work anywhere, anytime

I am looking to put tegether a website for my photography, and
orginally I was going to go with GoDaddy and wordpress and use RC's
book "Get your photography on the web" . However I recently heard
about Zenfolio and SmugMug being better for photographers, so now I am
wondering if there is anyone in the group that has used either of
these and what some of your opionions are on this?

I'm not aware that a photographer's site needs any special hosting
considerations over any other database site with many images in it. What
    am I missing?

I just hope if the OP decides on a self-hosted solution, he avoids GoDaddy like the bubonic plague. GD hosting is atrocious, and I'm being kind here. :)

I am with you Deb, I believe any GOOD host can handle images. It is like
Baskin-robbins.. what is your favorite flavor? Mine is hostgator because
the support via chat is outstanding. I have used them for 4 years and have
never had an outage I am aware of.

    Hi All,
we have launch a new site in Ireland recently, called scalpandhairclinic.ie

I have added the site to the Google webmaster tools and the site is now
listed on google, that was a month ago.

To date Google is only listing the home page which is fine, i am sure they
will add more over time as this is often the case with brand new sites.

The problem is that when running a search for the word "
scalpandhairclinic.ie" the search returned with "did you mean
scalpandhairclinic.com", even worse, on some google settings google reverts
to what it thinks you were looking for and says searching for
scalpandhairclinic.ie, searching for scalpandhairclinic.com instead which
is a bit of a disaster for the client.
Does any one know if this is temporary or have any experience with this?

    Many thanks

Are you using the irish version of google? http://www.google.ie/ If
this clinic is located in Ireland and is seeking customers from ireland it
seems strange that on the local google site they would suggest the .com ,
    but it does!

The good news is, that most people will not do a search with the domain
extension in it.. they might look for "scalpandhairclinic", but the bad
news is in this case on the google.ie site this results in the .com to show
up 1st in results and you are second. You may have a hard time knocking
them off of the top spot, Maybe you can instead shoot for dominating the 1
st page.. try to get 4 out of the top 10, say 2,3,4, & 5

If I search for "scalp and hair clinic", you are number 8 on the first page.

If I search "scalp and hair clinic ireland" then you are not even on the
    first page

Seems like you need to use social networking to bring yourself up in the
standings. IE: Yelp, google places, Google+, facebook, twitter
