Hi guys,
I have never hosted on a CMS before but due to the advise i got here i
decided to host my site on WP CMS for experiment. Now the index page
displays date of post and name of poster which i have not been able to
remove.
I have many challenges with it as I find it easier to design by myself
instead of CMS. I dont really like the theme am using?
I want you guys to please view and give me a truck load of advices and
the dos and donts.

You can go into the Settings (I forget which one the specific home page
selector is on) and choose either "Your most recent posts" or a STATIC
page which is probably what you want.
If you don't like the theme, go get another one. There are probably
millions of WP themes out there both free & paid. Just Google for them.
