 Topic: IE problems

I actually develop on a MAC so I have never heard of this
compatibility mode. I ended up fixing that initial problem, but when
some other users were running into viewing issues I suggested they
toggle that mode on or off and it fixed it! Thanks so much. I was
really stressing out as to why my IE8 test mode looked fine, but
theirs did not. Good tool to have in the bag.

    hello digital gurus:

i have a client who has some old web pages showing up when people web
search for them. the old domain is owned by their old web guy who has
(apparently) gone out of business, as none of my calls or emails have
    been returned.

does my client have any recourse besides letting the domain expire?

for now, i put in those old name(s) first in the meta keywords and the
site's meta description. i'm not a SEO expert by any means, so if
there is any other way to get the correct site above the old one in
searches, that would be something, i guess.

    as always, THANKS!

Do a whois it and find who owns the name, and if you client owns the domain
then you can easily get the DNS changed to a different server. If the domain
name is with the old guy then you will have to fight it. You could also
contact the business that hosts the site and see if they can do anything.

I think, HTML5, though is tempting, is not *fully *supported by many
browsers. So, having a HTML5 component in a page makes it unpredictable
    across different platforms.

    Any opinions???

There is a JQuery plugin called jPlayer (http://www.jplayer.org/).

As Liam suggested, it primarily relies on HTML5 for playback and also has a
SWF fallback if the requirements are not supported by the browser.

Note that this is a plugin and does not come with a UI. You will have to
develop the UI by yourself (which is a good thing, if you ask me)...

It comes with an extensive documentation, so you won't face any problems as
far as usage is concerned. .

Moreover, if you are playing user uploaded stuff, make sure that the
uploading and storage systems are in consistence with each other. Also,
retrieval will play a major role when it comes to playback...

First make an efficient DB system and File storage mechanism, so that you
can retrieve stuff pretty fast. Since the elements being exchanged are heavy
themselves, you cannot afford to make mistakes in transactions.

Lookup the API. It should be enough.

    thanks binaek,
I have designed the file system and db. i am using PHP for retrival.
that should not be a problem I guess. I need to concentrate on player
only for now. so by the instructions you have just mentioned i will
    try to design the player.

and if we talk about flash player for videos. than I have to design it
or I have to buy it?

And if we talk about flash player for videos than I need to design it
or I have to buy it?

    Binaek Sarkar <binaek89@gmail.com> Oct 12 05:02PM +0530 ^

Neither. if you use jPlayer, the SWF integrates transparently into the
    designed UI.

If you intend to use only flash player, then you'll have to design it,
although I am sure that you will get one if you dig around the web a little
    bit...

 Topic: Good Hosters

I can see why you are angry at them :)
I've had the very same issues with various american hosters.

Why don't you go ahead and get your own server, VPS?
