    The greens look good. I wouldn't use such a bright red. There are some
    color blind people that would have difficulty seeing it correctly. You
    would be better off going with a different color then the red. But
    overall, great design!

[Inside AdSense] Mobile Mondays: GoMo and DudaMobile offer a do-it-yourself mobile site builder

An important first step to attracting customers on-the-go is to create a mobile-friendly website which can sometimes be complicated and confusing. We're happy to announce that GoMo and DudaMobile have joined forces to make it even easier for small businesses to create a mobile-friendly website.

You can create a free mobile site directly from howtogomo.com using a tool powered by DudaMobile. This do-it-yourself site builder, customized specifically for GoMo users, easily converts regular websites into mobile-friendly sites in five simple steps. And it allows you to add features like a click-to-call button, mobile maps and Google AdSense. Sites that are created with the GoMo-DudaMobile tool will be hosted free for one year.

Here's a before and after screenshot of Dog Nanny's site.

Dog Nanny's website was not mobile friendly. Visitors had to pinch and zoom to read content.

Dog Nanny's new mobile site - created in just a few minutes - looks great on mobile devices.

Please note that DudaMobile's technology is best for converting simple sites. If your site uses a lot of Flash content, framesets or e-commerce, we suggest that you Go Mobile by talking to your agency or working with one of our suggested developers.

Many small businesses are discovering that mobile sites mean more business. Now you have an opportunity to easily create a professional mobile site which will delight your customers when they visit you on the mobile web. Visit howtogomo.com/getstarted and build your site today.  It's time to GoMo!

    Albert, I really like LESS. Nested rules make your CSS more readable, and
    makes it easy to avoid writing conflicting rules, especially if you like to
    keep your CSS in separate files to organize them better. I do this, and
    then they are lumped together in a single file for trasmission to the
    browser, so being able to encapsulate everything for me represents the
    major benefit of a system like LESS.

    Also, mixins make it easy to reuse classes, which is especially useful when
    the markup isn't yours. Most of my sites use Drupal and the Zentropy base
    theme. In most cases I find I can simply apply CSS without ever having to
    touch the original HTML, and mixins makes this trivial.

    For instance, a common class nowadays is a clearfix class:

    .clearfix:after {
    content: '.';
    display: 'block';
    clear: 'both';
    ... etc, etc ...
    }

    for clearing floated elements.

    If your HTML is your own, you just add class='clearfix' wherever you need
    it. But if the HTML is being generated by a CMS, you often can't do that.
    So you're stuck in CSS doing large lists of things to clear:

    #some-element,
    #another-element .some-class,
    etc. etc {
    clearfix CSS here
    }

    With LESS, you don't do this anymore. You simply declare a mixin, which
    looks almost like a class declaration:

    .clearfix() {
    &:after {
    content: '.';
    display: 'block';
    clear: 'both';
    ... etc, etc ...
    }
    }

    And then, wherever you need to clear floating children:

    #some-element {
    .clearfix;
    }

    Much cleaner and easier to write.

    Another great help is for keeping your colors straight, with variables.
    You can declare variables like this:

    @black: #000;
    @white: #fff;
    @red: #cc0000;

    Then in your CSS styles use these "named" colors to keep your pallette
    constant:

    #page-title {
    color: @red;
    }

    Be very careful with your link building.
    Google is on a campaign to weed out link spam.

    On the + side of link building they have turned off all the positive
    SEO factors.
    PageRank does not affect SERPs anymore and they just turned off the
    power of anchor text.

    Google wants only organic links tied with a relevant theme.
    If you are placing links on a non-relevant page they consider this as
    link spam.

    Your onpage SEO is poor.
    You are keyword stuffing in almost invisible text "India Tour, India
    Tours, Travel to India, Trip To India, Tour Operators In India"

    This is in h1 in the source code but in the smallest text on the page.
    h1 and h2 tags have teh same copy and are smaller than the h3.
    You need to learn about semantic hierarchy

    I also counted about 46 uses of the word tours on your mainpage.

Digest for adsense-api@googlegroups.com - 4 Messages in 2 Topics

Group: http://groups.google.com/group/adsense-api/topics

    Brian Deyo <chachawebstats@gmail.com> May 03 08:09AM -0700

    I have a simple api call to pull earnings by product_name. On the web site
    I can see 4 products: Adsense for Content, Adsense for Search, adsense for
    Mobile content, and adsense for mobile application (search). The api
    however, only returns: Adsense for content, and adsense for mobile content.

    What could I be doing wrong?

    Roel <roel.duijnhoven@gmail.com> May 02 05:29PM -0700

    Hello,

    For a while I have been struggling now to get a script to communicate with
    a AdSense account that I own via the AdSense API.

    As this is thus one single AdSense account that I own myself I decided to
    choose the service account authentication technique using a certificate (
    https://developers.google.com/accounts/docs/OAuth2#serviceaccount). A
    snipplet of the PHP code is given by:

    $client = new apiClient();

    $key = file_get_contents(KEY_FILE);
    $client->setClientId(CLIENT_ID);
    $client->setAssertionCredentials(new apiAssertionCredentials(
    SERVICE_ACCOUNT_NAME,
    array('https://www.googleapis.com/auth/adsense.readonly'),
    $key)
    );

    $service = new apiAdsenseService($client);
    $results = $service->reports->generate('2012-04-01', '2012-04-31');

    I enabled the Adsense Management API, but still when I now run this script
    I get a response of:

    (403) User does not have an AdSense account

    The account using which I have created the OAuth keys is the very same
    account having access to the AdSense page. Thus the same e-mail address
    appers in the top-right corner.

    What could I be doing wrong?

    Best,
    Roel

    "Sérgio Gomes" <sergio.gomes@google.com> May 03 07:44AM -0700

    Hi Roel,

    I'm afraid that accessing the AdSense Management API via service account
    authentication is not supported, since it's protected user information (and
    as described in the service account authentication entry in the
    documentation page you linked to, access to user information is not
    supported).

    This doesn't mean that support couldn't be added in the future, but for now
    you'll need to stick to web-based or installed authentication for PHP.

    Cheers,

    $client->setAssertionCredentials(new apiAssertionCredentials(
    SERVICE_ACCOUNT_NAME,
    array('https://www.googleapis.com/auth/adsense.readonly'),
    $key)
    );

    $service = new apiAdsenseService($client);
    $results = $service->reports->generate('2012-04-01', '2012-04-31');

    I enabled the Adsense Management API, but still when I now run this script I
    get a response of:

    (403) User does not have an AdSense account

    The account using which I have created the OAuth keys is the very same
    account having access to the AdSense page. Thus the same e-mail address
    appers in the top-right corner.

    What could I be doing wrong?

    Best,
    Roel

[WD&D] Digest for sitedesign@googlegroups.com - 5 Messages in 3 Topics

Group: http://groups.google.com/group/sitedesign/topics

    Stuart Moules <stu.moules@googlemail.com> May 03 11:24PM +0100

    I just put one in my online portfolio last week, at stusroom.com.

    I used the insert spry menu bar tool on the insert bar in classic workspace
    in dreamweaver cs5.

    alisty <albertlisty@gmail.com> May 03 12:17PM -0700

    Hello all, I would ask for some help.

    My main job requirements is to do client side coding. My task is to
    create pages that are not continually making calls to the server side.
    So I am needing to use Jquery, JSON, ajax and the like.

    One of my biggest problems is that I do a function and then end up
    finding out that because of __doPostBack calls that I have to do for
    either UpdatePanels or the like, I get functions that are being called
    twice.

    So my question is, does anyone know of a "list" of what events fire
    first to the last? Example would be Page_Load, On_PageInit, PreRender,
    Post Render and so on.

    I have not been able to find anything that would be helpful. It seems
    that I write some clean jquery and then it doesn't work well because
    it ends up firing twice. Or even worse, is that it never gets fired in
    the first place because of something else being run prior to it.

    Anyway, I think that is enough information to help you understand my
    question.

    Basically, I'm just looking for a list of events and what fires first.
    Or rules of thumb that will help me to understand all of this.

    Thanks!

    Aaron, Is there anything in particular that you don't like about LESS?

    The nested rules really sounds intriguing to me.

[Inside AdSense] Around the world with AdSense in Your City

Since taking AdSense in Your City global earlier this year, our international teams have met with over 600 publishers in cities like Amsterdam, Rio de Janeiro, Melbourne, Istanbul, and Mumbai, just to name a few. During these events, we've shared product updates and best practices for getting started with solutions like DFP Small Business and Mobile. In addition, attendees have had the opportunity to network with other local publishers and participate in one-on-one consultation sessions with our optimization specialists.

As our U.S. events take place, we're excited to continue visiting international cities to meet more publishers. Some of the cities we'll be stopping by in the next few weeks include:
  • Week of May 7:
    • Dusseldorf / Hamburg / Munich, Germany (sessions in German)
  • Week of May 14:
    • Auckland, New Zealand (sessions in English)
  • Week of May 21:
    • Mexico D.F., Mexico (sessions in Spanish)
  • Week of May 28:
    • London, UK (sessions in English)
    • Curitiba, Brazil (sessions in Portuguese)
  • Week of June 4:
    • Sydney, Australia (sessions in English)
    • Paris, France (sessions in French)
    • Tel Aviv, Israel (sessions in Hebrew)
    • Buenos Aires, Argentina (sessions in Spanish)
  • Week of June 25:
    • Porto Alegre, Brazil (sessions in Portuguese)
If you'd like to attend one of these upcoming AdSense in Your City events, please fill out our interest form. Space is limited at each event so we won't be able to accommodate all requests, but we'll do our best to include as many interested publishers as possible. In the meantime, we recommend ensuring you're opted in to receiving 'Special Offer' emails so we can reach you in the future.

Thanks to all of our recent AdSense in Your City attendees for taking the time to join us and share your feedback. We look forward to meeting more of you in the coming weeks!

    Andy <rivers.andy@gmail.com> May 02 08:28AM -0700

    Hi all,

    I need some help with creating a horizontal menu bar for my website.
    I need each link to span on two lines. Something like this:

    Home About Contact
    Welcome to Site All about us Talk to us

    They will sit in a header div which has a height of 100px.
    I want these to be centered vertically and when a person hovers the
    hover background fills the 100px height for each link. I have tried
    using a <br> tag within the main link but it doesn't work.

    The best online example I know to explain what I am trying to do is:
    http://southcreative.com/gold-coast-web-design.html

    I will not be using a background image - just a background colour.

    Thanks for any help,

    Andy ;-)

    Joni Mueller <joni@jonimueller.com> May 02 12:47PM -0500

    I fail to see how your example helps. It doesn't appear to do what I think you want your nav menu to do. Unless I am confused about what you want. Did you mean something like this?
    http://demo.i-arts.eu/mega-dropdown-menu/home

    If you are using Firefox, you can get the Developers tools and view the CSS and HTML and figure out how it was all put together.

    If you want each MENU item to span two lines then you will likely have to hard code that anchor text. Are you using an unordered list to display the menu items? Can we see your code?

    Hi there,

    I'm afraid the Management API is read-only, and its purpose is simply to
    retrieve your inventory data, as well as to run reports. You cannot in any
    way control which ads are shown using the API.

    You probably want to look at general AdSense support for the answer to your
    question: http://support.google.com/adsense/?hl=en

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Hi All,
    in recent weeks some of our clients are complaining that some of the emails
    they are sending to hotmail users do not reach them. Apparently they are
    not even found in the spam filter.

    I am guessing it is some kind of antispam system on Hotmail, even if the
    emails are perfectly legitimate.

    Does anyone have experience with this?

    I had such a problem with Yahoo! once. We built a system that was supposed
    to send *Account Activation *emails to the users' email address. All of the
    Yahoo! users complained that they were not receiving the email. A little
    bit of research revealed that Yahoo! had updated its SPAM filter and was
    completely rejecting mail from random servers. We tried changing the
    content in the emails and taking off the heavy stuff (like pics etc...),
    but none of that worked.

    Ultimately, we had to route the emails through GMail servers.

    Typically these can be solved by having reverse DNS records in your
    NameServers. They mostly use IPs to authenticate the originating server.
    RDNS helps with that.

    This might also help:
    http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx

    Best of luck.

[Inside AdSense] Introducing redesigned Payments pages

To make the payment process easier and more flexible, we'll soon be introducing some changes to the "Payments" and "Account settings" pages in your AdSense account. At the moment, this new payments interface is available to a small set of AdSense accounts, but we'll gradually roll it out to more publishers in the upcoming months. When the new Payments page is enabled for your account, it'll look like this:

Here's a summary of the changes and added benefits of the new payments interface:

1. Redesigned Payment summary and Payment settings pages
- Payment method is now called Form of payment.
- Unpaid finalized earnings is now called Current balance.
- Redesigned transaction history table shows you the latest activities at the top.
- New toolbar support allows you to filter, print, export, or download transaction information.

2. More flexibility with your payment settings
- New extended timeline allows you to change your payment information until the 20th of any month.
- You can choose any payment threshold greater than the default payment threshold based on your reporting currency.
- You can also hold your payments until a specified date.

3. Improved navigation of the payments interface
- Centralized locations to manage your Payment settings and Payee profile.
- Contextual help is displayed based on the pages you navigate to.

This is just a first step towards providing a better payment experience, and we'll continue to add improvements over the coming months. For additional details, please sign in to your AdSense account and visit the Payments section in our Help Center.

    Is there a google adsense app that uses the API to allow users to specify
    types of ads that can be served. For example, if I ran a Catholic website
    and wanted google adsense ads to only show ads related to catholic services
    or ads referencing specific catholic websites, would that be possible?
