While a static HTML site is still a quick fix, with the increase for clients
to want more and ask for more it just makes sense to use a CMS. The claim
that a CMS is somehow the problem when it comes to security is a bias
without merit. FYI Joomla 1.5 is reaching end of life early next year and
the CMS is currently being developed as 1.7 (soon to be 2.5, don't ask me
why the weird release skip) but the fact is and always has been that
security starts with a quality server and is also decided by what extensions
    are installed.

I have saved more Joomla sites from the grip of a hacker more times than I
can count and in every single case another webmaster could not fix the
problem and was quick to blame Joomla as the problem. In all but a few cases
it was not Joomla that was the problem it was low budget servers that had an
IT support team that had no business being responsible for some ones
website. Those that were not the fault of the server the webmaster installed
a third party extension without testing it or making sure the code was well
formed and as such they installed a developers code that was mal-formed and
should have never been used. Not one single instance was the fault of the
    core Joomla system!

To take your comment one step further along with the above problems in all
but a few cases load time is completely reliant on a competent server. I run
several servers and they are averaging 200 websites each, all of which are
Joomla websites and there is no lag or hang time. Don't stereo type a CMS
based solely on the application without including the root cause which is in
most all cases server related. Remember you get what you pay for and picking
a quality server is above all other aspects of web design the most important
consideration of any website regardless of platform.

It is not so much the "loading penalty" from the search engines, it is the
bounce. I know people have itchy trigger fingers for the back button on the
browser. I am guilty of that. If I feel that a site is taking too long
loading I bounce rather than wait for it. I am really focusing on making my
new projects lean and mean, avoiding using databases altogether. I know
there are certain applications that I will need a database, but still trying
    to avoid them.

Another thought regarding CMS base sites is that there are so many backdoors
and exploits. what is joomla 1.5 on now... version 24?? with an HTML site,
you can set the permissions on the files and consider yourself safe from
    hacking attempts.

Good points. I guess I worry about the loading penalty as well. Is
that old school thinking or still an issue?

    Hi all,

I have pulled together a product pre-launch site for a client product. I
would appreciate the group's feedback on the site. Note: don't minde the
logo background on the top-left (will fix)
