It doesn't sound that you are using a good tool to find the backlinks to the
site. You need to look at the backlinks to the site using either
MajesticSEO, Ahrefs or SEOMoz. If the backlinks have been passed via 301
then some of aforementioned tools may not pick them up. That is why I use
more than one backlink detection too.
