- Creating an online newspaper site [6 Updates]
- nestkojex@gmail.com Aug 01 09:19PM
Good day all,
A client just contacted me to build an online newspaper website. I am confused as I have been thinking of building it with either joomlar or wordpress, though I am not very good with cms or if I should build from scratch.
Honestly, if I have my way, I would use a cms because the site may be very large. Any suggestion on what would be best? Or best cms and template that can best accomplish this?
Thanks

Absolutely reccomend you use Joomla CMS for this. Wordpress does not
compare when it comes to being able to build a large news or magazine
website (although it can be done but it's not as powerful or flexible or
extendable).
Building from scratch is a bit ridiculous in my opinion when you have an
open source CMS like Joomla that has so much to offer that will save you so
much time and energy building a great looking and functional site.
There are also hundreds of templates that are great for this type of site
for Joomla.

I agree with mike. Joomla has great extensions available to accomplish your
goals. For templating, there are many options also. My favorite framework
is warp, developed by yootheme.com The have something called widget it that
works great with their templates and others. One template of theirs that
looks good for a newspaper format is revista. Take a look at their site for
demos.
The most exciting thing to come along for Joomla lately is widespread
development of responsive templates. Check out yootheme, shape5, and
joomlart for examples. They look great on any device. I have several
gadgets from Samsung galaxy mini to galaxy tab 7 to I pad and the
responsive templates will make you look like a brilliant designer

I haven't used Joomla since it was Mambo but I agree with others'
opinions that WordPress is not going to be the answer for a large
site. If you are comfortable with Joomla!, I'd use that. If you aren't
particularly, and are just looking for suggestions, I can recommend
Drupal (http://www.drupal.og). Quite a number of large,
magazine/newspaper type sites are running Drupal:

@Chris: I am glad to hear about the responsive themes. Joomla!'s older
themes were table-based and that's one reason I never dived into it
much once I started using WordPress, CMSMS and some others.
