    Content curation is good when done properly. That means you always link back
    to the source but add editorial comments at the beginning and end of the
    copied content. If a website fails to do this, and "then loses the snippet
    war" that duplicated page then can have a negative ranking effect on the
    whole website. Links coming form such a website would then be considered
    weak links. And if you have too many weak links to you website, then your
    site could suffer too.
     

     
    Google uses an algorithm where you are ok if you the good outweighs the bad.
    However, if you tip the balance, you better have another traffic source
    because clearing a penalty is not easy.
