I need to build a distributed system which would store and compute
terabytes of data from high-throughput biology sequencing projects. I
figure mysql database might not be the best choice, and as I do searches, I
find couch DB which is distributed and NO-SQL could do the job. Since I
have no experience on Couch DB, any suggestions on it?

Have you looked into Hadoop? No-SQL is great, I have loved my time with
Mongo but it sounds like Hadoop is more what you are looking for.

The link has data storage options with it. Forgot to include that sentence.
