I just installed Seamonkey. Seamonkey doesnt have a WYSIWYG interface
I thought it did :) So I ask again what free Html editor has a WYSIWYG
interface and is closest to Dreamweaver in features?

    Hi Rich!

Sorry - you have to go under File - Edit Page - THEN the window pops up
with the WYSIWYG editor. It's been a while since I actually used it, and I
thought there was an Edit button.

You can see a screenshot of the editor here
    http://www.cool-webdesign.com/seamonkey.png

You can do the bulk of work in there, and tweak in the HTML tab if needed.

    Thanks and good luck!
    Laurel :)

    Hi all,
I am taking over the maintenance of a site Exotiquemakeovers.com. The former web administrator uses a very unpopular host that has very limited functionality, utiware. Now I am moving all the files to a cpanel host.
Now I can't use the domain name Exotiquemakeovers.com because its still active. Do I wait for it to expire or is there a way I can transfer the name and register it with the host I want to use now before its expiration time? I know I can actually point the domain name to the host, but the issue now is that if I do that, when the domain expires, I would I have to pay to use it, when I could simply get it for free if am getting it with a new host simultaneously.

You can transfer domains from one registrar to another. Usually costs a
little more than registering it. Also most hosting companies offer it as a
service. There's no need to wait for the domain to expire.

You will need the Domain Name Secret Key. This should be available from the
Domain Control Panel (One given by the Registrar. Not synonymous to Hosting
Control Panel. The two are separate).

Contact the people to whom you want to move it. Their customer service
    will guide you through.

When you initiate the transfer, they will ask for the Secret Key. Be sure
    to have it handy.

One more thing, when you do the transfer, the domain expiry will get
    extended by 1 year.

    Hi there...

NEVER let a domain name expire unless you plan on letting it go forever.
Expired domains with any potential of some possible value are snapped-up
after they expire faster than the previous owner can register them.

The domain name can point to the new host by setting the new name servers
for that name, yes. If the new cpanel hosting comes with a free domain
registration/transfer included as a part of the hosting you might want to
transfer it there. Many webmasters use a domain registrar to manage the
domain names and a host for the hosting.

That decision is up to the registrant. But don't act as the registrant if
its not your domain. When web designers do that they are effectively
stealing the domain away from the rightful registrant. It always creates a
hassle for the company later, or the new owner upon sale, or the next
    designer/admin.

The registrant, or the domain name administrator, should make the name
server change now, before transferring the domain name, because otherwise a
change to the domain name when it is awaiting transfer could mess-up the
    transfer.

Right now the domain name is locked. The registrant needs to unlock it,
have the Domain Name Secret Key, or the Domain Name's Authorization Code
sent to him via email, then apply for transfer to the new registrar using
the secret Key/Code (whether it will be the new cpanel host, or another
registrar which specializes in domain names).

    Hope that helps...
But NEVER let a valuable domain expire. Even if it is worthless, any name
with potential value is usually snapped-up fast for its traffic. Popular
names are sent to auction houses that specialize in selling such names for
    a premium price tag.

    Ernest,

I hope you haven't invested to much time in this project. When the
customer and current host or developer are playing games it makes for a bad
experience. They need your services. Tell them what you need. If they
won't provide it, the tell them to go away. It is hard to do that
sometimes, but you will probably be better off.

By the way, the account you need to have access to transfer a domain is at
the registrar, not the cPanel of the current website.

Thanks all. The only cooperation am getting from the guy is access to the panel. For some reasons, the site owner does not want the guy and I to talk, so she acts as an intermediary. She said the guy claims he does not have or know the domain secret key. But in the panel I was able to access the DNS Zone Records, but I don't see any secret codes other than IP addresses here. I could easily change the name servers here, but the bad side is, Ђδω do I renew it when it expires since I won't be getting any notifications in my email. Or can I WHOIS the registrar and contact them myself?

Can someone point me in the direction of where I can find downloadable
    tutorials in the subjects below.

    • HTML 5
    • JavaScript
    • CSS
    • jQuery

    Thanks in advance,

    Rich

    chris walker <customsitepro@gmail.com> May 31 09:18PM +0800

    Rich,

Each of the technologies you mention have their own project website. The
documentation inmost cases is a downloadable zip file that you can learn
from studying. In the case of Jquery mobile, When you download the docs, it
has samples of the most common uses of the platform. you can use that as a
reference when you are building your site.

Another way to learn the different technologies is to simply view the
source code of websites you like in your browser. It will have links in it
to all of the css files and javascript files used in the pages. you could
actually copy a site that way.

In addition to studying the source code, you can also use firebug and
actually manipulate the way almost any site looks live in your browser o
see how changing values in the css changes the oerall look of the website.

Finally, Big Brother (Google) is your friend. there are plenty of online
    tutorials out there.

I relize hat everything I have touched on is stating the obvious for most
people, but that is how I taught myself. The best way to learn is get
yourself some hosting and a development domain and start playing. At first
your efforts may look crude, but as the pieces come together in your head
    your skills will improve.

    Good luck!
