Hello all...
I started a font site and although I am still troubleshooting it (there are
a few font archives that were bogus, or the font itself was bogus), I'd
like an idea on what you think of the design of the site.
http://www.font-journal.com
You can select your own custom text and color to preview the fonts, and if
you click on them you will be presented with a character map of the
rendered characters available.
These fonts are for the Windows and Linux PCs, Macs need to run the font
through a freeware converter, which I will put online soon. Right now I am
busy going through the fonts. ;)
Thanks!

Hi Doug,
If you are looking are looking for 1 more search criteria for your list
just to be even, then maybe you should put a search for 'gothic' in. Which
is is a type of oldschool typeface for calligrapher's and also a style of
typeface, much seen in type sites from what I remember, and may just be the
same as searching for 'calligraphy', which itself is a broad subject. Maybe
design your own gothic typeface, and copperplate too, seeing as they are
probably public domain by now anyway. Unless you want to leave the odd
space for future additions of course.

They, that's pretty cool, Doug. You might want to either change the word
"Settings" to something that is more descriptive of it's function or
make it visible without clicking the word. For me it's just not obvious
enough.

I setup a dictionary site on Sunday....
http://www.GlossaryIndex.com
It is an extremely simple site that allows you to look-up dictionary words.
There are some 150,000 words indexed. Like it?
I want to expand this site later, make a more browse-able index of words
and terminology, but that will take much more time. But if you have any
ideas or suggestions what I can do with it, I would be more than willing to
let you bend my ear.

The idea is good. Sorry to be a critic, but I think there's a bug.
When I try to fetch some word with a lot of meanings, then it is
overlapping the footer links. This is because of the *height *style of
the *result
div. *If you change it to *min-height* then its working perfectly. You
might want to look into it.
Also, it would be nice to have an image or something which shows that the
data is being fetched.
One more thing. Is it necessary to have it lookup the dictionary after
every keypress? Like, if I am typing in a 45 letter word, then it makes 45
requests. For every request, my browser send 223 bytes. So, we are talking
about more than 9KB, just to get one word.
Maybe, you could check the field after a specified interval, check it
against the previous value and then send the request. That should bring
down the number of requests.
Also, it would be nice, if you had an API to couple with this, which people
could access. That would lead to a better hit ratio for your system

Oh!!! I forgot to mention.
*input.gif * is non-existent. The URL that it points

One more thing. The input box has an *onKeyUp* event listener. What if I *PASTE
*a word into it? It won't work then...

I can do.
Awesome critique, Thank you!

I personally am not a super big fan of the design. However the functionality
is pretty cool. I like that you have the predictive intent in there and I
can see words/definitions as I type. I did find this problem occurring with
larger definitions tho: http://screencast.com/t/fFbYr1O6cO
Looks like you need to have a push footer so that this doesn¹t happen.
Either that or clearfix would probably work too.

It functions beautifully. I am not too keen on the banner myself. The background graphic is great. I just don't care for the font effects. I dislike drop shadow (it seems so 90-ish), and the other effects on the light font color makes it difficult to read, IMHO.
I've been using this on footers with great success:

Lovin' it... considering it takes more time than an average lifespan to
type the English dictionary. I will definitely use it for spell checking in
future. I think the word 'work' takes up the most space with 34 definitions
and I have to scroll down, which got me thinking maybe you may want to
paginate the results over multi pages.

my bad!
I recon each search result per correct spelling of a word are from 1 cell
in 1 column in 1 table and unless you can access the sql database in php,
and, use the ceil() function to calculate CHARS it wont be possible.

And so easy for Digg to figure out. They have algorithmic software that
tips them off when a group are "gaming" the system. It has been tried
before on Digg and other sites with negative results when they identify
groups joining forces and Digging one another.
