Hey guys, we just put up our new site: http://RedRokk.com

I would love to get some feedback on your thoughts.

    Couple things specifically:

    1. We went with a integrated game instead of a slider. Our thought was
it is more compelling, gets users involved a little while letting them see
who our customers are. The game is actually playable using you mouse keys
and consists of the whole first level.
    2. Interactive Client Map on the portfolio page. We wanted to illustrate
that a lot of work is not based where we are. You can mouse over client
names to see the corresponding project or location on the map, and vice
    versa.
    3. I feel like my colors are a little off, but the red didn't show up on
the primary background forcing me to use an alternative color.

Any feedback is great. If you find something you don't like please send it
allong with a suggestion on how you might improve it. Thanks!

Super creative on the game part I love it. The only feedback I can
give is it took me a bit to realize there were companies in the
background which made me miss half of them. I don't know if darkening
those up a bit would be counter to your design but would draw my eyes
to it a bit more. I was so focused on little Mario that I didn't
notice them. (Disclosure: I am a programmer not a designer.)

    Tyler Byrd <tylerbyrd@gmail.com> May 22 12:33PM -0700

Joe thanks. I was curious about that with the logos. I thinking I will
either darken them like you suggested or change the color to the red so
    they pop a little better.

We are also working on a second generation of the game that will actually
incorporate more social icons and make them interactive. That way users
can use mario to hit them, similar to coin boxes in the game, but the
icons would share via social networks instead of giving you points.

It looked really cool, but I couldn't find any coins, either. Are you using
Chrome, Doug? All I could do was run and jump, but I did notice all the
client names in the skyline. Nice work!

    Laurel :)

I know, Firefox used to be my favorite browser, but now it's so frustrating
I only use it for testing. It's true about Google - they also know your
shopping habits and payment information. And they were giving away free
websites to any business in California who didn't already have one (more
places for the advertising - woohoo!).

LOL - we all speak survival code at least. Have a great night! :)

If you use or have used the billing/hosting portel, WHMCS, you should immediately change or at least monitor any credit cards on file there, change all passwords for any accounts you had set up there.

They were apparently hacked/rooted today. The hacers (@UgNazi) got ahold of lead developers email, used social engineering to induce HostGator to give hackers access to the site/domain. And hackers will be releasing a dump of the WHMCS database to the public at some time later this evening, according to what I've read on Twitter. (The hackers even took over the WHMCS Twitter account.

I haven't had a WHMCS account in over two years, when I stopped offering web hosting. And I got an email that appeared to be from WHMCS but when you view source, you realize it was from the hackers, as they left a signature. So they have gotten ahold of the database and are having a field day with it.

    Ernest,

Right off the bat, I would say your color choices are all wrong. With that
critique should come a solution in order to not seem like I am picking on
    you.

Your green in your menu is #009900, which is a good color. If you browse to
http://kuler.adobe.com and go to the left hand menu where is say create
from a color, enter 009900 in the middle pane (base color) that opens up
    then click on your options

Analogous, Monochromatic, Triad, Complementary, compound, and shades.
Personally I like the complementary scheme using your base color of 009900
    along with 17E517, 004C00, 4C0026, and 99004C

Every time I want to theme something and need to come up with a good color
combination I have found Adobe Kuler is my best friend

I realize it is a mockup, so I will not comment further except in regards
to your product modules.. maybe they should be rounded corners of about
10px radius all around. Waiting to see the live version

Hmmnn, thanks Chris. The live version is almost ready, but I fear it would be a catastrophe putting the link up. Am so intimidated. But I will try to put it soon though. I will try the Kuler solution too. I am really drilling myself in css too and also learning not to take offence at criticisms. lol

I almost did not respond due to our last interaction being so heated, but I
decided to take a chance, try a more diplomatic approach and give you some
insight without you hopefully going on the defensive. I know how it is to
pour my heart out on a project and have the customer or someone else tell
me that "It sucks". It happens quite a bit even with my main contract I
have been servicing for over 4 years.

There are so many flavors of CSS out there.. I have spun my wheels quite a
bit learning one and then "discovering" another. Since this is
an eCommerce site, have you chosen a shopping cart yet? Are you going to
wrap the cart within your own framework? If so I would recommend
bootstrap, actually bootswatch http://bootswatch.com/ It has a nice UI
and is easy to modify plus it has all of the jquery plugins built in that
    you could ever need.

Why don't you create your sites on a development server; passwod protect the directory, drop a robots.txt file in the root, etc. That's what I do. You don't have to own a separate domain for that, although I do, but you can just use subdomains.

That way you can give access to the site for testing purposes without compromising an existing live site.

I once did a similar thing for a PHP site that I developed.

    Here's a gist of what I did:

PHPClasses.org has a 3rd party POP3 library (which comes highly
    recommended):

    http://www.phpclasses.org/package/1120-PHP-Communicating-with-a-POP3-mail-server.html

PHP itself almost always has an IMAP library. (depending on the compilation)

Write a script which monitors the email address in question - if there's
any new email then, read the mail , save the picture, update the DB blah
blah - Delete the email from the box.

Setup a CRON(linux) or Scheduler (windows) which will run this script every
    15 minutes or so.

That would be the simplest way to do it.

Depending on the technology you are using, the basic framework remains the
same. Just get hold of a protocol and networking libraries that can access
POP3 or IMAP, specific to your needs.

    Binaek Sarkar
