Hi Doug,
I just doug out my Collins English dictionary as my Oxford mini English
dictionary/thesaurus and my websters reference library didn't even entry
'Gothic'. Apparently it means to type "using a heavy ornate typeface",
ornate meaning highly decorated. Maybe you could index all the super ornate
typefaces and label them Gothic. I know what you mean about sans though as
I have 'Franklin Gothic Medium' and 'Letter Gothic Standard' opentype on my
machine and they are sans but probably more ornate than the the regular
typefaces of 'Letter' and 'Franklin'.
Hope this helps some more and I didn't waste too much of your time when I
hit the bottle and started waffling.
Regards, Stuart.

I don't know what Gothic means in script, but in typography it is
sans-serif.
Yeah, in hand written script, it is very complex, like the old german
style, Black Letter.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackletter
But in Typography it is sans, means the same thing. Confusing, I know. To
complicate matters, Copperplate is said to be a gothic style font, but it
isn't, it has glyphs that accentuate the abrupt stops in the ends of the
letters, but those embellishments are the same flourishing that Roman
style, or serif fonts are.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sans-serif
When looking at the above link, Gothic seems to be out-modded?
But look at the write-up on Franklyn Gothic...
"Gothic" is an increasingly archaic term meaning sans-serif.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_Gothic
OK, so you have a point. Which brings me back to...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copperplate_Gothic
While termed a "Gothic" (another term for sans-serif), the face has small
glyphic serifs that act to emphasize the blunt terminus of vertical and
horizontal strokes.
So it just goes to show that I shouldn't get my info from Wikipedia. :P
I still have to figure it out, but I can't just use "Gothic/sans-serif" as
a category. That much seems sure.
I wonder if Roman/serif would work? Probably not.
Art. Why should we classify it? To make it easier to find. LOL

Here's another question... my SSL certificate works both with domain.com
and www.domain.com, but GeoTrust only validates the certificate (with that
little "live" GIF) if a page from www.domain.com requests validation. I
think this is because when I registered for the cert, I entered
www.domain.com as the domain.
I've seen a couple pages on how to use IIS to force browsers from
domain.com to www.domain.com.
Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks!

That's unusual.
A license for www.domain.com is supposed to be good for anything under
it. That means that www.domain.com/anything/any/path should be good
and so should domain.com and domain.com/anything/on/any/path
...according to the certs I get. It is when people get it for
domain.com that they don't get to use it for the www. subdomain. I
argued this point with the SSL sales guy at one point and got the
impression that this would never change (unless I upgraded to a
wildcard cert where *.domain.com works).
I guess everyone has different expectations and standards. So I think
we should call before buying these things, now.
You should be able to redirect traffic from domain.com to
www.domain.com with the .htaccess file. I think you can even redirect
http:// to https:// in .htaccess, if not you can check for a secure
connection in php and if there isn't one reload the page with the
https:// protocol.
One of the developers that play with .htaccess and php more can
probably shine more light on the subject.

I probably should have clarified.
*.domain.com is covered by the cert, but for some reason the validation
graphic that you can add to your site only works when it's with
www.domain.com. It is kind of strange, yes. Maybe I should ask Geotrust
about it.
As for htaccess, I've never really used that, but it would make things a
heck of a lot easier if I could just put entries in there for SSL, rather
than using the ASP code.
I don't want the whole site to be SSL, but only certain pages.
Thanks for the help. Anyone else?
